Update: ACLU of New Jersey statement on denial of emergency petition to extend ballot access
The ACLU of New Jersey has issued a statement following the denial of their emergency petition seeking extended ballot access for those displaced by Hurricane Sandy. The ACLU earlier today sought a court order allowing people to vote through the Federal Voting Assistance Program, which provides absentee ballots to residents living overseas or members of the armed services. Among other reasons for the petition, the ACLU cited “the large volume of complaints from voters who were not getting a response to their email or fax requests for ballots” under New Jersey’s plan to allow absentee voting through Friday.
